UK resin producer ACM Wood Chemicals plc is making its first move into South Africa with the construction of a US$9m plant to supply the country’s largest panel producer, PG Bison.

The ACM plant, which is set to come on stream next year, will produce 60,000 tonnes per year, with the resins tailor-made to Bison’s specification for use in the manufacture of particleboard and MDF.

ACM chief executive Andy Markessini said: ‘Only a few years ago the panel industry was using a handful of resins to make all of its products. Manufacturers are now realising the improvement in costs and board quality that can be achieved with tailor-made resins.’

ACM also has resin and resin additive factories in Europe, Canada and Australia.
