Merchant apprentice Dean Atkinson, who works at Naylor-Myers Building Supplies Ltd in Yorkshire, has beaten apprentices from all over the UK to scoop a prestigious new award from the Institute of Builders Merchants.

The award acknowledges an exceptional candidate enrolled on the BMF Apprenticeship Scheme.

Mr Atkinson was nominated by his BMF regional assessor Angie Pountain who guided him through his three-year apprenticeship. He was presented with his trophy and a prize of £500.

In addition, a further £1,000 scholarship fund was awarded to Naylor-Myers Building Supplies Ltd, and will be used to pay for further training and course fees as he embarks onto the BMF Diploma in Merchanting.
