Mixed merchant buying group Fortis held a successful conference and dinner in Birmingham, where it shared its strategy for the future.

The event, held at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole Hotel on May 21-22, saw digital business expert Ryan Hogarth host the Building + Timber Conference, with speakers including Lord Digby Jones, former minister of state for trade and investment, and Andrew Cope, MD of Chandlers Building Supplies and the chairman of Fortis. About 450 attended.

As well as presentations by the Fortis team, Meet the Merchant sessions allowed suppliers and merchants to network. An evening dinner attended by around 800 guests saw Hugh Dennis preside as host.

“We have received feedback from both members and suppliers and it has all been really positive,” said Mr O’Meara.

“These events are always a great opportunity for Fortis to meet and work with its suppliers to strengthen our relationship and I feel we have achieved that.”

Fortis has 41 member companies across the UK (approx 380 branches) with combined annual revenues of approx £1.4bn, whose members include Covers, Alsford Timber and Howarth.
