Stewart Milne Group (SMG), the Aberdeen-based housebuilder behind the recently-opened £10m timber frame production facility at Witney near Oxford, has appointed a non-executive director whose key tasks will include developing the group brand and contact base south of the border.

City of London-based George Gillon has been a business advisor for 38 years and currently chairs surveyor and property consultant LSM Partners.

According to group chairman and chief executive Stewart Milne, the Witney operation is already supplying timber frames to most of the major housebuilders in the area ‘but the long-term goal is for the Stewart Milne Group to sell houses in England and Wales under its own brand’.

SMG also stated: ‘Observers may speculate that Gillon’s appointment is a precursor to a move to the stock market by the Stewart Milne Group but the company’s strong balance sheet means there is no real advantage in floating, especially as they have no requirement to raise capital.’
