Richard Hewitt, managing director of Georgia Pacific (UK) Ltd and a leading light within the Timber Trade Federation‘s National Panel Products Division, is to retire on April 5 after more than four decades in the timber industry.
Having joined Price & Pierce in early 1963, he went on to become plywood director of Seaboard International between 1970 and 1978 before spending four years with Price Morgan Plywood & Boards. In 1983, he established Georgia Pacific (UK) Ltd and has continued to run the operation from the south of England ever since. According to Mr Hewitt, his business has been responsible for selling more southern yellow pine plywood into the UK than any other.
Mr Hewitt’s involvement with the TTF’s NPPD and International Division commitees dates back to the 1970s. He has only recently stepped down as NPPD chairman after two years in the post.
