Future capacity was a key factor when joinery company the Northcross Group ordered upgraded dust extraction, collection and disposal facilities for its new factory in East Lothian.
The company, which makes exhibition displays, visitor facilities and corporate or retail environments, moved from its small workshop in Leith to a site double the size at MacMerry.
The installation of a Nordfab NFS 2000 filter unit by Dust Control Systems Ltd, an investment of £34,000 for Northcross, is designed to accommodate new panel cutting and routing technology scheduled to be introduced during the next 12 months, as well as existing wood saws, planer thicknessers, spindle moulders and routers.
Chris Hanson, projects director of Northcross, said: ‘We are traditionally big in exhibition work but we have seen a recent upsurge in the retail interiors side of the business.
‘This puts more emphasis on our need for higher technology CNC based panel processing machinery, routers and panel saws, and we needed to upgrade our extraction facilities accordingly.’
The system also makes the company fully compliant with the Environmental Protection Agency.
It is based around the NFS 2000 filter plant with tubular sock type filters which handle larger load factors and reverse air regeneration fansets for regular cleaning of the filter medium.
The layout has an extraction capacity of 10,000cfm and the fan power of the single 30Kw Combifab unit can be easily increased with the installation of supplementary units as needed.
