James Ogilvie, president of the Institute of Chartered Foresters, and head of grants and licences for the Forestry Commission, is on his way to conquering Mt Everest.
Mr Ogilvie, an experienced climber, arrived at base camp on April 14 and has spent several weeks acclimatising. He hopes to reach the summit on May 18.
Mr Ogilvie, who is part sponsored by Norbord, has used previous climbs, including Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America, and Denali/McKinley, the highest in North America, to raise money for Tree Aid, which helps to alleviate poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. The target for his Everest challenge is £5,000 and donations can be made a www.justgiving.com/jamesogilvie
