The family-run Italian firms of SCM Group and CMS have joined forces to help develop new market opportunities.

The SCM Group, which is owned by the Aureli and Gemmani families, will control 51% of the shareholding while the Aceti family, owners of CMS, will retain the chairmanship and continue to run their Bergamo-based group.

The woodworking machinery manufacturer SCM Group, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, has 12 production facilities, 15 subsidiaries and a consolidated turnover of euro450m.

CMS has 500 employees, four facilities, five subsidiaries and a turnover of euro80m. A leader in top of the range numeric control machining centres, it also has marble, glass and thermoforming machinery sectors.

The Aceti family says the agreement is an extremely important strategic decision for the development of CMS which will now be able to use the strong organisational and financial structures of the SCM Group to fulfil its potential in terms of innovative designs and products for companies in all industrialised markets
