Northern Ireland cabinet door manufacturer CNC Components claims to be the first UK company to offer vinyl wrapped desktops, door and drawer fronts for the office furniture market.

The company has installed ‘secret’ technology that includes a press with the capability to wrap foils some way underneath and not only around edges. The machinery can also wrap vinyl into cabling apertures, which has traditionally been a problem.

The installation at the Cookstown, Co Tyrone, factory includes a new Reichenbacher CNC router. It uses the pin-system, jig-less, table format that was originally pioneered by Wemhöner on its membrane presses.

The system also uses new scratch-resistant foils from Renalit .

CNC said components produced using this technology are slightly more expensive than their laminated and edgebanded counterparts but should actually be compared with solid wood and wood veneered equivalents.

CNC sales and marketing director Warnock Watson said: ‘Routed MDF, with highly authentic vinyl foils wrapped around their curved edge profiles are virtually indistinguishable from solid hardwood lipped and veneered product and are a lot less expensive.’
