After announcing its partnership with Denmark-based fire retardant specialists BURNBLOCK in 2019, WJ has gone on to invest in the latest flame retardant treatment technology and kiln drying capacity at its dedicated facility in Driffield, Hull.

Having installed a new state-of-the-art autoclave, the timber treatment company can now apply high-pressure fire retardant impregnation treatments in accordance with European Standard EN 13501-1 to Euro Class B and Euro Class C.

Promoting itself in the sector for being the first completely natural and nontoxic solution for timber fire protection, BURNBLOCK is described as 100% biodegradable, water-based, and having no adverse effects on air quality or the environment. It is also described as being both reliable and safe, having been environmentally tested by independent notified bodies.

“It has been a great journey from first partnering with BURNBLOCK to now having a fully operational FR treatment site,” said Mark Eggleston, managing director at WJ Timber Treatments.

“Our collaboration means we can now offer the UK construction market a reliable and eco-friendly flame retardant treatment,” he continued.

“It’s clear that the use of timber in construction has the potential to support the government’s aspirations in reducing carbon emissions to net zero by 2050, and we see the use of non-toxic flame retardants being a key contributor to encouraging its use, and enabling the sector to choose more environmentally friendly materials.”

BURNBLOCK flame retardant products have been tested to the highest European standards by recognised independent institutes in Europe. These include RI.SE (SP-Fire) in Sweden, DBI in Denmark and BRE in the UK.

WJ Timber Treatments holds full CE mark certification, having undertaken an independent factory audit in accordance with the Construction Product Regulation scheme to AVCP system 1.

All substantiating documentation is provided with each treatment in order to provide customers with the assurances they require.

BURNBLOCK fire-retardant timber and plywood is now available from WJ Timber Treatments and its partner, Specialised Panel Products.
