A house made of structural insulated panels (SIPs) was the showpiece for four SIPs companies at the exhibition.

Widnes-based SIP Building Systems Ltd (SBS), which manufactures SIP panels, shared a stand with SIPit (Scotland) Ltd, SIPbuild and builditgreen, all of which fabricate and supply panels made by SBS.

SBS highlighted the credentials of its system by choosing Interbuild for the presentation of its BBA certificate.

Phil Bonnyman, of SIPit, said business for the company was very good, with architects keen on the design possibilities. One of the company’s projects is being featured on Discovery Real Time’s House in a Box programme.

Mr Bonnyman said new regulations governing energy efficiency and air tightness were switching the public sector onto the benefits of SIPs, which consist of rigid polyurethane foam insulation between two layers of OSB.
