There has been a 10-fold increase in the quantity of cut-to-size board sold at Calders DIY in the Harrow Road, London W10 since the installation of a vertical panel saw from SMS.
The company has also benefited from being able to buy chipboard, MDF and other panels in bulk with significant cost savings.
Calders’ Phillip Peters said: ‘We can now justify buying boards in pallets and realise savings in the order of £4 per sheet of MDF.’
The compact UVP 12 vertical panel saw occupies minimal floor and wall space in the DIY store which is crammed with stock. Before its installation two staff members had to cut sheets horizontally with a circular saw, taking up valuable floor space and time.
