Peter Allen, who recently became managing director of Vollmer UK, said cheap flights had encouraged British companies to travel abroad.
“It has been extremely busy, with a constant stream of customers from England, Ireland and Scotland,” he said. “More people are realising Ligna is the show to come to.”
Vollmer had two exhibition stands to profile its grinding, stellite-tipping, erosion and sharpening machines.
The QX D400 disc erosion machine, which received its first airing at Ligna, is designed to erode and grind PCD-tipped tools with a diameter of up to 400mm. It features six simultaneously controlled CNC axes and a workpiece and tool magazine for up to 72 tools.
The company says manual intervention is no longer necessary and set-up times are reduced.
New products for the sawmilling industry include entry-tech profile and side grinding machines for bandsaw blades and the GPA200 stellite-tipping unit.
