Legislation recently introduced in Finland is expected to help the establishment of new common forests in the country.
The Act on Common Forests will eliminate the transfer limitations for shares in the forests and is also designed to reduce regulation. Finland currently has 135 common forests covering about 500,000ha, producing some 600,000m3 of timber per year.
