The NHBC’s latest figures, published today, show a 120% increase in affordable home registrations to 3,000 for February, compared to 1,373 for the same month in 2012.

For all new home registrations in February, the total figure was 10,538, compared with 8,512 last year. The NHBC credited the growth to the government’s £2.2bn affordable homes programme which aims to deliver 170,000 new homes by April 2015.

“But the figures also show that current government schemes such as NewBuy and Funding for Lending are finally helping to boost new housebuilding,” it said.

The last rolling quarter (December-February) shows 26,004 registrations, against 21,422 the year before.

“These figures, combined with the boost for housing announced in the budget, are a welcome shot in the arm for builders up and down the country,” said Richard Tamayo, NHBC commercial director.
