One hundred and thirty eight architects from the UK and abroad attended a “Hardwoods in architecture” seminar organised by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) at The Haberdashers’ Hall, London.

The seminar was organised in response to a call from architects for more information on wood following the Institute of Wood Science convention in Cardiff themed “How does wood help to sustain the built environment”.

AHEC’s European director David Venables gave a presentation on the sustainability and performance of American hardwoods. Other speakers were James Greaves, a director at Michael Hopkins Partnership, Peter Ross of Arup and Ciaran O’Connor of the Office of Public Works in Dublin whose EU Food & Veterinary Offices in Co Meath, Ireland have won three architectural and sustainability awards this year.
