The grandeur of the Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel was the focal point for another successful Western Timber Trade Association (WTTA) annual dinner on February 7, attended by 182 people.

Ex-Communards pop star the Rev Richard Coles regaled guests with stories from his heady days’ of 1980s world of pop music stardom and his journey to become an ordained vicar in the Church of England.

A raffle for the Timber Trades Benevolent Society raised over £3,151, a record for the number of people attending. Sodra was the main evening sponsor.

“The WTTA Black tie dinner remains strong and healthy, with growing numbers and a healthy agenda for 2025,” said WTTA chairman Wayne Probert, Ante-Holz sales and development director for UK & Ireland.

“The event was well attended, and I was happy to see many new younger faces in the audience, which seems to show a changing of the guard.”

Mr Probert said new WTTA members included Strata Timber from Ireland.

“We are optimistic that we will see a good year ahead with improved profit margins, but supply will be tight if the current status quo continues.”

Mr Probert said the WTTA and Timber Development UK had recently met with Welsh Government to discuss the Welsh timber strategy.

Further WTTA events in the calendar include the AGM & general meeting on March 28 at the Bristol Hotel; an event at the Flight Club in Cardiff during May; and the Summer BBQ on July 3 in Bath.
