The Arnold Laver Group has got the go-ahead from South Tyneside Council to make a £3m move to new premises.

The company is to vacate its FJ Reeves Timber World site at Tyne Dock, South Shields to run a new depot from the former Dent Steel site on Wagonway Road, Hebburn.

The move will safeguard 50 current jobs and add at least another 30.

The company was forced to move as the Port of Tyne needs its Tyne Dock site for an extension to its container facility.

Work to transform the former shipbuilding steel plate works into an Arnold Laver Timber World Call Collect depot is expected to start soon for completion by the end of the year.
