Bedford-based timber importer Arqadia Ltd has been fined £80,000 by HM Customs & Excise for illegally importing ramin from Indonesia.
The wood, picture frame mouldings worth around £130,000, was imported through Felixstowe between September 2001 and March 2002. Importation of ramin is restricted by the Convention of International Trade in Endangered Species of Fauna and Flora.
