Wood preservatives manufacturer Arxada has reported growing adoption of its alternative solution to creosote – Tanasote – as it prepares to launch a whitepaper in August to further showcase the science and performance behind the solution.

Arxada says that as Europe phases out creosote, Tanasote – its advanced oil-based wood preservative – is rapidly gaining traction across agriculture, rail, and utility sectors.

The company said with the UK’s 2026 creosote ban looming, farmers and contractors were turning to Tanasote for reasons including durability, installer friendly attributes, and aesthetic appeal. Arxada reported especially strong adoption in contract fencing & equestrian settings.

Ireland’s ban on creosote in fencing, has already led to widespread adoption of Tanasote, according to Arxada, with the product now stocked by over 200 suppliers and supported under the TAMS scheme.

In rail, Arxada says Tanasote is poised to replace creosote-treated sleepers across major European networks by 2025–2026, following successful live-track trials.

Arxada also has high hopes for the utility sector. It says a UK trial since 2018 has shown strong performance, and Arxada forecasts 2028 as a tipping point for widespread adoption.

Arxada points to Tanasote’s EU Biocidal Products Regulation approval and a life cycle assessment showing low environmental impact.
