The government’s commitment to manufacturing has been questioned by Construction Products Association (CPA) president Roy Harrison.

Speaking at the CPA’s autumn lunch at London’s Savoy Hotel, Mr Harrison said: “We as an industry have suffered more than most from the increased fiscal burdens. I don’t need to tell this audience of the effect of the climate change levy and the aggregates tax.”

He questioned whether the government was committed to making the UK a place where companies could compete effectively and challenged it to introduce reforms to achieve an efficient and sympathetic planning regime.

The event attracted more than 450 representatives from across the construction industry.
