The BASF Corporation and Janssen Pharmaceutica NV have entered an agreement enabling Janssen to use chlorfenapyr as a pre-construction wood preservative.

Belgian-based Janssen’s plant and material protection division will use chlorfenapyr for plywood, other engineered wood products and solid timber under the brand Terminox.

Chlorfenapyr was developed and is registered by BASF for post-construction termite control under the trademarks Phantom in the US, Mythic (France) and Stealth (Japan).

The agreement enables Janssen to examine and develop pre-construction uses for chlorfenapyr and maximise opportunities for BASF’s flagship termite control business.

It adds to Janssen’s extensive portfolio of complementary wood protection active ingredients used in decay, stain and insect control products, and its wide pool of fungicide and insecticide compounds used in wood preservation.
