British Columbia is looking at 57 different proposals for using beetle-infested timber.
The projects, to be assessed by an independent team, represent 20.8 million m3 but only 2.3 million m3 will be harvested initially.
Beetle infestation is expected to be worse this year due to the lack of sustained cold temperatures last winter.
