Biesse Group SpA has reported a 61% increase in order uptake for the six months ended June 30.

For Biesse’s wood division the rise was 71% compared to the same period a year ago. During June, the division saw growth of 34.5%.

The company said the growth had exceeded expectations, both in Italy and abroad.

Areas showing the most significant growth are South America, eastern Europe and the Mediterranean basin.

For the third quarter, Biesse is expecting a significant seasonal change in productivity but it believes the full results for the second half will still be positive and will show a recovery compared with the 2008 results.

Biesse is hoping to reinforce client relationships in China when it attends the FMC Premium trade fair in Shanghai from September 7-10. Biesse regards China as one of the top priorities of the group’s global commercial strategy.

At the same time the group has embarked on a three-year industrial plan, involving product innovation, technical services and reinforcement of commercial distribution. This will involve 22 new products, 16 in wood technology.

This goes hand-in-hand with a cost reduction programme designed to reduce the cost of sales by 10% in 2010-2011, by taking action to reduce both labour and raw material costs.
