Net consolidated revenues were also up by 8.6% up to €91.6m (2013: €84.4m).

Biesse, which exhibited at the Xylexpo fair in Milan on May 13-17, said the group’s order intake was extremely positive, particularly for the systems segment – which booked large-scale business totalling €15m in the opening months of the year.

The group’s order intake at March 31 was 21.6% higher than a year before.

Some 10.8% of consolidated revenues came from the Italian domestic market, with 14.2% coming from BRIC countries. Western Europe accounted for 41% of business.

"The extremely positive trend of orders in March and April – if confirmed in the coming months – could indicate the possibility of a slight upgrade of the group’s growth expectations," said Biesse chief executive Stefano Porcellini.

He said the Italian and Spanish markets were showing signs of reawakening.
