Nigel Blandford has joined environmental regeneration initiative The Mersey Forest, the largest of England’s 12 community forests, specialising in timber and bioenergy issues.

Mr Blandford first moved from the south-east to the north-west five years ago to work as operations manager for Red Rose Forest. Part of his role is to promote the greater use of timber componentry in the continuing regeneration of the north-west’s urban centres.

“Go to places like Liverpool and Manchester and you can’t help but be impressed by the scale and the pace of new building work,” said Mr Blandford. “However, shamefully little use of timber is made, particularly in any structural context.”

He will also continue his role in bringing more waste wood to the energy market.
