Live Smart @ Home is to carry out in-depth interviews with applicants for its BoKlok housing development in Gateshead after receiving 180 applications for 60 properties.
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of their financial situation, as well as show that they are able to secure a mortgage for a property.
Live Smart @ Home had announced that it intended to hold a lottery for the BoKlok properties if it was inundated with demand for the homes, but now wants to use the interview process to whittle the numbers down.
It also said that it intends to discourage those looking to spend more than 40% of their income on a home.
“We are very happy with the number of applications we have received,” said Alan Prole, managing director of Live Smart @ Home.
“Although we are three times over-subscribed, we do believe we can avert the need for a lottery and provide homes for those who meet the target profile but will not mortgage themselves to the hilt to get a home.”
Live Smart @ Home intends to announce the names of the first residents in the development within the next few weeks.
