Sales and marketing director Mark Fleming told TTJ that the company had recently completed the purchase of a 28,000ft2 building next to the Skelmersdale branch.

The building has been divided into a lacquering and priming/painting shop, plus extra warehousing for bulk storage of hardwoods and clear softwoods.

The Skelmersdale branch had previously been renting a unit for its finishing operations, which now transfer into the new building and comprises denibbing facilities and a Palmer Primer water-based vacuum coating system.

The facility is designed for bespoke finishing of a wide variety of timber products and has the capability to apply fire retardants.

Brooks Bros’ Danbury site had already been operating a finishing plant for many years. Mr Fleming said Skelmersdale’s sales had grown quite dramatically since the branch was established five years ago, culminating in a new sales record during June.

“Trade was down in the first quarter but it seems to have bounced back since then,” he said. “Thankfully, we are coming out of the worst of the recession.”
