Richard Burbidge has become the first supplier of outdoor balustrades to have its entire range certified to BS 6399.
The British Standard sets out minimum loadings for balustrades that are in line with Building Regulations. The testing was carried out through BM TRADA and sees domestic balustrade systems tested to 0.36kN/m at ground level and 0.74kN/m for elevated decks above 600mm of the ground. Commercial solutions reach 0.74kN/m for light applications and 1.5kN/m for heavy commercial settings.
This gives stockists and suppliers peace of mind that they are offering products that meet customers’ needs for safety, said decking product manager Zubda Hussain.
“Customers are becoming increasingly aware of outdoor safety, particularly in commercial or raised applications, where the health and safety risks are greater,” said Ms Hussain.
“Becoming the first supplier of outdoor balustrades to receive BM TRADA accreditation means that Richard Burbidge’s balustrade delivers both safety and style.”
