The EU has now adopted a ban on timber imports from Burma.
Introduction of the measures follow an EU Council meeting in Luxembourg during October when ministers spelled out a series of actions in view of the “seriousness” of the current situation in Burma.
An export ban on equipment to Burma’s logging and timber sector and an embargo on investments in the industry have also come into force.
