An A$21m investment will be made at Carter Holt Harvey‘s (CHH) particleboard operation in Mt Gambier, South Australia, to keep up with continued growth in the sector.

The expansion will raise capacity at the two plants by 23% to 277,000m3 a year – almost one-third of the country’s annual particleboard production.

Growth in the particleboard market is running at 3% per year. CHH believes it may end up spending “hundreds of millions of dollars” on new production facilities if the rate of growth continues.
