Indian plywood and decorative veneer company Century Plyboards said it plans to move more into laminates and revive its adhesives business.

The company, which has built a Rs380m laminate unit at its Kolkata factory, said the plywood industry is stagnating, while laminates and pre-laminates are experiencing strong growth.

Century wants to double its laminate production to 200,000 sheets a day in the hope of winning US and Asian export contracts.

However, the firm has also teamed up with the Indian Plywood Industries Research & Training Institute to bring out a wider choice of decorative plywood designs. It is also working on “anti-bending” plywood technology.
