An independent, on-line comparative matrix to help public bodies, forest owners and buyers make informed decisions about forest certification has been launched by CEPI – the Confederation of European Paper Industries.

The Confederation said that in today’s political, economic and environmentally-aware climate, forest certification was an increasingly important issue for those making decisions on wood and wood-related products.

But, it said, there was a lack of clarity and objective information about the subject, prompting it to create the website at www.forestrycertification.info.

The matrix allows users to electronically compare information on all existing certification schemes and their labels against internationally recognised criteria. It contains information on 39 different schemes and allows on-screen comparison of up to three schemes at a time.
