A programme to expand business activities in Vietnam is under way in Chile.

Initially the Chilean forestry export group Masisa plans to export wood to Vietnam, after which it aims to carry out afforestation projects and develop wood processing factories in the country.

A national programme to plant five million hectares of forest has been implemented in Vietnam, but this will take time to come to fruition.

Meanwhile, according to Martin Koster, Masisa’s export manager, there is great demand for imported wood to enable the country to develop its processing industry.

Masisa, the largest exporter of forest products in Chile, can provide products including fir and eucalyptus. It targets the Vietnamese market because the country has stable economic growth, has high demands for imported wood and has favourable conditions for afforestation projects.
