China is set to introduce a new standard for its wooden flooring industry in the wake of rising consumer complaints about quality and service.

The thriving real estate and home decoration market in China has seen a large increase in the use of wooden flooring, with 150 million m³ sold last year.

The central government is expected to bring in the new standard soon, as well as publish criteria for manufacturers and dealers. It also hopes to achieve a balance between the flooring industry and sustaining forests.

About 30 wooden floor manufacturers, representing more than a third of the domestic market, gathered in Beijing earlier this month to pledge to provide high quality products and courteous service.
