Hanson Clarinets and Sound & Fair have won an award for their “outstanding contribution to the work of the FSC in the UK”. The awards are being presented throughout 2011 to mark the UN International Year of Forests.

Hanson Clarinets and Sound & Fair worked together to produce the world’s first FSC-certified clarinet – made with African blackwood – establishing chain of custody from Tanzanian forests to Hanson’s factory in Yorkshire.

The award was presented at a special concert by FSC UK executive director Charles Thwaites.

“Hanson Clarinets are pioneers of responsible timber sourcing within their industry and the Sound & Fair project is a hugely positive and successful endeavour,” he said.
