COFORD has launched two new publications on Irish hardwood timber and products to mark its centenary of forest operations in the country.

“Guide to Irish Hardwoods” and the “Market review and technical performance of Irish hardwoods”, published in association with National Tree Week, map out the dynamics of the market for home-grown hardwoods and describe the timber and working properties of the 12 most important species.

David Nevins, chairman of Dublin-based COFORD, said the market for hardwood-based products has risen dramatically during the past decade and Irish timber had the potential to capture a greater share of some of the 88,000m3 of temperate hardwood imported in 2002.

A web-based facility to enable specifiers and the public to source suppliers of Irish hardwood timber and products is also going live at www.coford.ie/woodspec
