Consumers in the US with composite decking manufactured by Louisiana-Pacific (LP) have been warned to stop using their decks after a string of injuries were reported.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission, in co-operation with LP, announced a voluntary recall of 48 million linear feet of the product after the company received 37 reports of decks breaking.

Fourteen injuries were recorded, including a broken wrist, sprained ankle, minor lacerations and bruises.

Consumers are being offered a free inspection by LP and if their decking is affected by premature deterioration, the company said it would provide a free replacement.

Recalled boards and railings were sold under the LP WeatherBest, ABTCo and Veranda brands in various colours, including Tuscan walnut/chestnut, driftwood grey/greystone, Pacific clear and western redwood.

Veranda products were made by various firms but only products produced by LP are included in the recall.
