ConFor is using leaflets to highlight the influence the timber sector can have on the battle to negate climate change, to showcase the biodiversity of the industry and to demonstrate the growth potential that could see thousands of jobs created over the coming years.

“There is an ever-growing awareness of the important role our forests and woodlands play in the drive towards creating a truly sustainable global environment and delivering a low carbon economy,” said ConFor chief executive David Crichton.

“They are a critical source of recreational, economic and energy benefits. We need to ensure the industry has the support and resources to sustain these benefits for the wellbeing of everyone.”

ConFor noted that the Scottish forest industry contributes £1bn to the economy each year and provides 19,100 jobs, while its Welsh counterpart brings in £900m to the economy and supports around 10,000 jobs.
