Launched by Rhona Brankin, the Scottish forestry minister, the consultation document is billed as a major opportunity for Scottish people to have their say.

Ms Brankin said the forestry sector has evolved quickly to deliver increasing benefits for the public and added that it is important to recognise the significant role forestry will play in the new Scottish Climate Change programme.

A series of meetings will be held throughout Scotland between now and May 29, and the final revised Scottish Forestry Strategy is due for publication later this year.

The draft review strategy document can be downloaded from www.forestry.gov.uk/sfs.
