Coote’s Builders Merchants has axed its old production methods in favour of a Striebig compact vertical panel saw to meet a new contract.

The Ballygawley, County Tyrone company found its traditional approach of cutting plywood to size on a flatbed saw too slow and cumbersome to satisfy the demands of a new box-making customer.

“We were not getting total accuracy from the flatbed and being a few millimetres out was a big problem for them as it prevented the sheets fitting together correctly first time,” said managing director Isobel Coote.

The Striebig Compact 4164 eliminates this problem, she said, and it only requires one operator while the old saw needed two. It also includes an automatic cut cycle facility.

The entry level vertical saw, which was supplied and installed by TI Machinery of Belfast, a sub-agent for Striebig’s UK distributor TM Machinery Sales, can handle sheets up to 3100x1644mm and 60mm thick. Coote’s also uses it to cut MDF into small sections for DIYers.
