Derbyshire County Council is one of the latest organisations to be presented with BM TRADA’s Q-Mark.

The council received the certification for both fire door manufacture and installation as part of its campaign to improve fire safety in Derbyshire’s schools, care homes and other buildings.

Its move follows the shifting of the burden of responsibility for fire safety to property owners or building managers through the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safty) Order 2005.

Surveys found that many fire doors in its properties were damaged or did not meet standards, so a repair and replacement programme has been implemented.

“The Q-Mark gives reassurance to the people of Derbyshire that we take their safety and welfare very seriously indeed,” said council health and safety surveyor John Eade.

Other Q-Mark recipients include shopfitters Beasley Joiners Ltd (for timber fire door manufacture), Janex (enhanced security windows and doors, plus high performance timber windows), A&A Joinery & Woodworking (survey and installation of windows and external doorsets) and Forest Hall Joinery (enhanced security windows).
