Frank Hellyer, who joined Covers Timber and Builders Merchants in 1942 at the age of 14, has celebrated 65 years of service.

During his career Mr Hellyer, has been instrumental in developing and influencing the business, having become a well-respected personality within the industry. In 1963 he was responsible for the development of Covers’ new site at Quarry Lane, Chichester where he commissioned the first of the German high-speed moulding machines.

At a presentation chairman Patrick Green described Mr Hellyer as the “soul of the company”.

“He has had a long history of nurturing and teaching many of the Covers staff over the years, and instilling in them a passion for wood. His knowledge of the trade and suppliers is respected by both the industry and customers, and has earned him his reputation as our timber guru,” said Mr Green.
