US demand for New Zealand timber products remains strong despite pressure on importers to reduce prices.

According to the New Zealand Timber Industry Federation bulletin there are predictions that prices will fall from their present very good levels, especially for moulding exports, as a result of Chilean rival exporters cutting their charges. Demand is likely to decrease during the winter.

Meanwhile, New Zealand log exporters report good demand and steady prices in most markets.

Demand in Korea has not lifted since recent flooding so inventories are building up and sales are slow, while slight price rises have been reported in the Chinese market.

In Japan, demand for plywood logs has risen because of low logging levels across New Zealand.
