Struggling Canadian timber company Doman Industries Ltd has labelled new forest legislation in British Columbia “unconstitutional”.
The Timber Licences Settlement Act prevents companies from seeking compensation for having to pay higher stumpage fees instead of royalties for wood cut on Crown land.
Doman, which is under bankruptcy protection, believes the legislation could be challenged under the North American Free Trade Agreement.
