James Donaldson & Sons has posted pre-tax profits of £3.03m in its annual results.

The Scottish timber company, which has 23 trading sites, saw its turnover grow by nearly 30% to £97.41m for the year ending March 31.

And chief executive Neil Donaldson said despite a backdrop of tough times for the housebuilding sector, there were still opportunities in the market for well-run businesses.

The group reported strong performances from all its operating divisions, which include the sawmilling business, Donaldson Timber Engineering and timber merchant MGM.

Donaldsons sees potential in a new range of industrial products, including windows components and trailer boards, made from reconstituted wood.
