Achieving Forest Stewardship Council and Programme for the Endoresement of Forest Certification chain of custody certification has allowed Berkshire-based Quality Timber Decking Ltd to pull in more trade from architects.

The company worked with BM TRADA to achieve the certificates earlier this year and was presented the awards by local MP Andrew MacKay. The certificates were on display at both the Grand Designs Live exhibition and Home Building and Renovating Show in London.

Director Sandra Sidey said that chain of custody approval had enabled the company to supply architects with the materials they need to meet customer demands.

“There is huge pressure on [architects] to design for sustainability and specifying materials which have been legally and responsibly sourced is a key part of that,” said Ms Sidey.

She added that the company recommends the use of Brazilian ipe when customers specify hardwood decking and that Thermowood, its range of Scandinavian redwood, is more eco-friendly as it is heat treated.
