A Kenyan conservation group wants the government to raise duty on imported wooden poles to help promote agro-forestry in the country.
The Friends of the Mau Forest Watershed are also encouraging pole users to buy them locally rather than rely on imports. It says government restrictions and unco-ordinated harvesting is making life difficult for farmers who want to sell their trees to pole users.
