The Earth Liberation Front (ELF) has allegedly claimed responsibility for a US$1.5m timber yard fire in Utah.
The FBI said the Stock Building Supply fire in West Jordan was arson and that the letters “ELF” were spraypainted on property at the site of the blaze.
A one-page fax sent to Salt Lake City radio station KSL with an ELF heading and claiming responsibility for the fire is also being investigated.
The fax said the Stock Building Supply lumber yard was targeted because it ignored warnings to repair its polluting forklifts.
The fax also said four other Utah businesses were targets, prompting security to be stepped up at those locations.
