The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) has communicated the EU derogation – which applies to oak, plane and maple from the US – to all its hardwood division members.

The decision follows work by the US-based National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) on its kiln drying hardwood timber programme to allow certain species to enter the EU without the need for the certificate.

Bark-free sawn timber of the three species can now be landed in the EU with documentation from NHLA’s programme, which ensures all parts of the lumber are kiln dried to less than 20% moisture by weight and are bark-free.

All KD hardwood bundles are fixed with an NHLA steel ID clip marked "NHLA – KD" along with a unique number, which is also listed on the accompanying certificate.
